The Home Midwifery Association is a Queensland, not-for-profit and volunteer-based organisation managed mostly by stay-at-home Mums who have had (or support) homebirths. Administration of the organisation is funded by membership to the HMA and various fundraising activities we undertake (in between pregnancy, birthing and mothering!)

Practitioners who choose to list with us do so free of charge and self select their title/category and geographic area. The HMA cannot verify nor does it guarantee the qualifications, skills or experience of any of the practitioners listed.

All HMA recommended midwives practise according to standards endorsed by our Association. However, this Association bears no responsibility for the birthing woman's choice of midwife or her decision to birth at home. Refer to the HMA constitution - copies available on request.

Women are encouraged to make informed choices and to take responsibility for their birthing decisions.

HOMEBIRTH IS LEGAL IN QUEENSLAND, there are however restrictions on those who can provide care for a birthing woman choosing homebirth. For information regarding this legislation and other information about the registration of midwives please visit www.qnc.qld.gov.au.
